4th Infantry Division

Normandy Battlefield Tour - D Day + 65

Bob Babcock, Historian and Past President of the National 4th Infantry Division Association and the 22nd Infantry Regiment Society is joining with Patrick Hinchy, noted WWII historian and Director of MilSpec’s European Programs, to provide an in depth examination of the 4th Division’s historic battles with Hitler’s armies. Both gentlemen are well versed in the 4th’s history so this tour promises to be an exciting venture for Veterans, Widows, Families, friends, historians and WWII enthusiasts as we celebrate the 65th anniversary of the D-Day Invasion.

Not only are battlefields on the itinerary, we include as many “Special Places” with meaning to Veterans and their Families, as circumstances allow. The combination of the 4th ID combat and service areas, Special Places, and major tourist attractions makes this 4th ID tour the creme de la creme of battlefield Tours.

Hotel accommodations, buffet breakfast daily plus additional meals, admission to sites visited, special honors and receptions for our Veterans and more are included in the tour price. Trans-Atlantic air is available, or you can book your own and meet the group at the hotel.

When Doc Long (315th Regt) and his family asked Patrick Hinchy to take them back to Normandy and Lorraine again for the 65th Anniversary, they could never have guessed what a wonderful program of celebrations and ceremonies the local French people in Normandy and Lorraine would organize. And now all 79th ID veterans, their families and friends are invited to come too, because our French friends feel in their hearts that this really will be the last time that we all get together.

Great French friends of 79th ID veterans Regis Giard and Claude Dahan have helped Patrick arrange the Normandy program, highlighting Utah Beach, Cherbourg, La Haye du Puits and Lessay where Regis is arranging a special exhibition. Claude Dahan and the people of Epone plan a big welcome for us close to where the 79th ID made the historic first Allied crossing of the River Seine. In Lorraine Patrick is working closely with the town of Luneville, Gerard Bazin, president of the Lorraine Battle Memorial, and Philippe Sugg, former French soldier and local military expert. All are great friends of the 79th ID.

Ceremonies, festivities and battlefield visits will extend over three days. In Luneville, today’s US Army will be officially represented accompanied by a color guard and the French Army will give a banquet. A new monument to 314th’s heroic action at Fraimbois will be dedicated. And much more. Finally we go to Luxembourg with its US Cemetery where General Patton is buried, and then to the Belgian and European capital Brussels with our Farewell Dinner in the beautiful, historic Grand Place.

EUROPEAN RIVER CRUISES

It is a well known fact that cruising is a relaxing way to vacation. Once you unpack your belongings your “work” is complete. You are free to, enjoy the on board activities, see sights along the way, dine on fine, local ingredients, all without leaving your floating hotel. The food is outstanding, and will please even the most discerning of palates. Add the complimentary, unlimited local wine and beer with dinner on the ms Symphony and ms Royal, and you will have a complete culinary experience. A fun and affordable River Cruise with such destinations as Budapest, Bratislava, Vienna, Linz, Passau and Regensburg to name a few, offers the opportunity to enjoy Medieval scenery and sights from a 21st century ship!

An additional benefit of cruising is the all inclusive price. With little exception, once you pay for your European River Cruise, there is little else out of pocket expense. Breakfast, including complimentary Champagne, most lunches and dinner, with free wine and beer are included in your cruise price. Sightseeing and touring, including an English speaking guide, are also included. You will need only personal spending money for gifts and souvenirs and money for tips to guides and the ship’s personnel.

All the cabins are outside with windows, so you can watch the vineyards and castles sail by. But, you probably won’t be spending much time in your cabin. You’ll be sightseeing, or on deck enjoying your fellow travelers and the many amenities offered on the deluxe ms Amadeus or deluxe ms Royal.

River Cruise itineraries range from 9 days to 18 days. Full details are available. Send us an Email or call us.

Christmas Market River Cruise

 Several departures in December 2009

A special treat awaits those who join the Christmas Market cruise. Stall after stall of fine handcrafts, hand blown glass, gingerbread specialties including, but not limited to traditional Christmas gingerbread houses abound. These markets are called Christkindlmarkt and have been around in Austria and Germany since the 13th century. We will visit the large markets in Vienna as well as the more intimate one in Regensburg.

Return to the ship after sightseeing or shopping and enjoy a mulled wine or hot chocolate while sailing down the Blue Danube. What could be more fun? This is a unique opportunity to visit the “old world” responsible for many of our own holiday traditions. You’ll want to bring your family and friends. Finish your Christmas shopping at the Christkindlmarkt!
